Paul is a Platinum member of the Law Society and a senior member of the Legal Profession having graduated in Arts and Law at the University of Adelaide prior to being admitted as a practitioner of the Supreme Court of South Australia and the High Court of Australia in early 1988. He has practiced law continuously since admission.
After 10 years honing his skills as an Associate Lawyer, Paul then founded and headed the well respected firm of D’Angelo Kavanagh for more than 20 years. He is now excited to move forward as Senior Partner and Director of D’Angelo Lawyers which incorporates the practice of D’Angelo Kavanagh.
From the outset Paul has been motivated by social justice issues and his primary areas of practice reflect that interest. He prides himself on his personable yet no-nonsense approach to the law and his fearless and intuitive negotiating skills are second to none. Paul’s experience over a broad range of legal issues and in many legal arenas allows him to understand his clients’ problems in a wider context.
Paul’s reputation within the legal profession and generally has led to other lawyers and professionals and certain members of the judiciary and their friends and family to seek his advice and representation. He has developed a strong client referred practice with a large criminal law and family law practice.
He has appeared extensively before most Courts, Boards and Tribunals in this State and before many Courts and Tribunals interstate.
Paul compassionately and expertly advises clients charged with serious criminal offences to minor offences, clients with extremely difficult marriage and relationship breakdowns and clients with very serious injuries. However, regardless of the level of seriousness or complexity, Paul understands the importance of the case in the life of his clients and responds accordingly.
Paul has lectured and tutored in Criminal Law in the Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice Course at the University of South Australia and has contributed to published works relating to legal issues, notably the anthology entitled “Crime on my Mind” (Published February 2010 by New Holland Publishers (Australia) Pty Ltd).
He has been a member of the Criminal Law Committee and the Children and the Law Committee and a continuous member of the Law Society of South Australia since admission to practice. The firm is a Law Society Gold Alliance Firm.
Paul has consistently been named in Doyles Guide as one of Adelaide’s leading Criminal Lawyers.
